“Science and Technology for a sustained future”

National Science Day was organized by SAH department on 28th February, 2018 in association with ONGC Cauvery Asset, Karaikal. The theme for this year is “Science and Technology for a sustained future”

About 50 schools in and around Karaikal and Nagapattinam district were intimated and wide publicity was given.34 schools participated with five students and a Faculty member for each school. Students were from classes VI to XI.

The inaugural session started with a prayer song invoking God’s blessings. Principal welcomed the gathering. A brief note on the significance of Science Day with a stress on this year’s theme was given by Ms. A.Mary Saroja, HOD, SAH. The students were motivated to march towards transforming science they learn to Technology by choosing Engineering courses at BCET and the benefits of joining BCET. To commemorate the noble prize discovery of Raman, a lecture on the topic “Raman Effect” was presented by Dr.N.Oumabady. ONGC supported us with financial aid and quiz kit to the children and the faculty, who led the team.

The first round was a written screening test in which 170 students took part. Top seven teams were short listed. The teachers were taken around the laboratories of various departments which were very much appreciated by one and all.

A special lunch was arranged for all the participants and the accompanying teachers.

The selected 7 teams took part in the final quiz round. The Quiz was well organized with 5 interesting rounds of oral and visual questions. Kendriya Vidyalaya Karaikal, bagged the first prize, ONGC Public school Karaikal, bagged the second and Bright Academy, Karaikal the third. Individual prizes were given to the winners as well as a shield to the schools.

The Valedictory function was held in the evening.  Prizes were distributed by the Chief Guests from ONGC Karaikal.  Mr T.S.Anbarasu, Chief Engineer and Mr S.P.Arivalagan HR Manager, ONGC ignited the young minds about ONGC and its services.

Program came to an end with the vote of thanks by Dr K. Balamurugan, SAH.

The highlight of the program was that the students and the teachers of the schools appreciated the infrastructure shown to them, the food and facility provided with, and the quiz-kit and prizes showered upon to the winners and participants. 

The Staff and Students had taken all necessary arrangements to make the program a successful one.
